Down At The Yard featuring Clinton Ross Davis

September 28 at 8 pm

The Yard Theater is thrilled to have dear friend & renowned multi-instrumentalist Clinton Ross Davis join us this month Down at the Yard!

Clinton is an old-time folk musician based in San Diego. A fifth-generation Kentuckian, Davis grew up in Carroll County along the Ohio River. Davis’ vast and varied musical prowess across many genres has earned him continued acclaim nationwide. His album with the G Burns Jug Band was awarded “Best Local Recording” at the San Diego Music Awards. “A joyous and soulful restoration of one of the lost treasures of American musical tradition.” – No Depression.

He’s taken his music–which spans guitar, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, mandolin, and piano–all over the country, performing at folk festivals including Wintergrass, Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival, National Jug Band Jubilee, Brooklyn Folk Festival, Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Competition, and Santa Barbara Fiddler’s Convention where he’s previously been awarded first prize in both banjo and fiddle.

Davis curates the Southern Pacific Sessions, a concert (pre-Covid) and video series which aims to help cultivate the next generation of audiences for traditional music in San Diego and Southern California. They have hosted some of the nation’s finest performers representing a broad diversity of American traditions: national award-winning banjo and fiddle players, grammy-nominated Cajun musicians, and Southwestern Hispanic musicians that have performed at the Kennedy Center.

During these odd times, you can find him keeping up the music online with virtual lessons on many of the above-mentioned instruments, as well as sharing his music on social media.

…and now you can find him Down at the Yard!

Down at the Yard featuring John Reed-Torres

Down at the Yard

August 20th, 8pm PT

Stream remains available for 5 days following the event.

Folks, do we have a treat for you! This Thursday’s Down at the Yard features none other than Mista Ragtime himself, JOHN REED-TORRES!

John, a South Central Afro-Mexi-American, is a self-taught, against-the-grain pianist & composer, and a true Angeleno. From scholarships through Neighborhood Music School in Boyle Heights and musical studies at Pasadena City College to national recognition as a pianist and composer, he has established himself as a pillar of ragtime in the city and beyond. Planted deeply in the cultural heritage of the self made & styled Black composers of legend, he lives among his heroes: Scott Joplin, James Scott, Arthur Marshall and the like. His original compositions are an ode to and an exaltation of our great city, as he himself is one of its brilliant jewels. Mr. Reed-Torres is a dear friend, a class act, a rare gem indeed, and he will be playing tip top tunes for you all this Thursday.
